I stopped drinking coffee over a year ago due to bad jitters and worsened (my already high) anxiety. I’ve been searching for anything to keep my energy up without changing too much of my routine, without dieting, etc.
Matcha has been a good “clean” energy alternative for me, straight green tea doesn’t do enough for me. In an effort to curb my stupidly expensive Cha Cha Matcha habit I’ve started making them at home. Cap Beauty’s individual servings are perfect if I’m on the go and Mood Beli’s blends with cacao and other adaptogens are perfect for when I have a bit more time.
I like to doctor mine up with Mood Beli’s dairy free coconut creamer powder (I’m lactose intolerant, I still eat cheese and dairy all the time but try to at least cut it out here lol) it helps cut out the bitterness. Then I add some other energy boosting herbs like
-Sun Potion Green Adaptogen, Moringa, or Rhodila
-Cap Beauty O’Clocks in 8am (a lil morning booster)
-Vital Proteins Collagen Powder (or any collagen, for beauty reasons)
So far these combos keep me awake and at least semi alert without the jitters of coffee or energy drinks. Oh yeah, PS: get a milk frother they’re $8 from amazon and will change your life.
Supplements are another way I keep myself up and functioning, I’ve been taking Maca Root for years and written about it here before, it is supposed to boost general energy and endurance. It’s also said to have benefits for your sexual wellness too. Google those. New to my routine are Plant People’s CBD supplements, my favorite is “Stay Sharp” for daytime which have a blend of CBD, Ginko, and other herbs that allegedly help with overall alertness and brain function, and when paired with CBD feel pretty effective at that.
I’ve also been taking supplements from wellness brand, Wthn, after a trip to their newly opened New York location (more on that below). My faves are “fully charged” for energy, and “run the world” for stress management. My stress is beyond an herbal supplement but anything to help facilitate relaxation is good with me.
Speaking of facilitating relaxation; let’s talk about acupuncture. I for one, am obsessed, but in general it’s not affordable enough for me to do all the time. I stopped by Wthn, intrigued by their intro price of $65 a session. Their space is gorgeous, welcoming, and full of wellness and beauty related stuff that I don’t need but want to buy. My practitioner brought me back to one of the private rooms where I explained to her that my main concern is chronic migraines but I’m pretty much falling apart all over. She said we’d focus on the migraines to start, “fix my whole being” was kinda lofty I guess! She positioned the acupuncture needles on my body at various pressure points then gave me an eye pillow and headphones with a guided meditation which… I was asleep in 90 seconds and woke up to her taking out the pins. I guess falling asleep in Flatiron at 3pm on a Wednesday is peak relaxation.
I think we can all agree that the CBD industry is the most severely oversaturated of all the wellness arenas. I am sure more than half of the products being reviewed well are placebo, but I’m a sucker for something natural, portable, and will help my chronic migraine pain! BEBOE’s calming blend CBD pen is the best CBD product I’ve tried (believe me, I’ve tried many). Their website says it offers “a fast-acting way to help curb anxiety, relieve pain, and reduce inflammation.” I can’t speak for the results of inflammation, necessarily, but as a headache-prone gal, this pen worked! The oil from the pen triggers a natural, subtle calmness that really helps with my anxiety and headaches. Each pen is described as having about 120 hits. I am not a smoker, so I only used it maybe 10 times a week for the past 2 months and I still have oil left. To top it off, it’s cute af!
