So let’s talk stoners, CBD, and everything in between.

I’m not the Feds, I’m not on some “if any future/current employers or my parents are reading this, I don’t smoke *wink wink*” thing either. It’s just that most of it gives me bad anxiety. Most people’s answer to this is that I haven’t found the right strain, which, whatever, I’ll prob stick to rosé. I do, however, love CBD. For those of you who are unfamiliar, CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that can help with pain management and is said to be anti-inflammatory. I suffer from major chronic (haha) migraines and endometriosis, both of which have been made more tolerable by CBD oils, chocolates, and teas.

DUDE: The ladies in the Netflix movie Dude are fucking great. Teenage girls who love each other just as much as they love their bongs. It’s your typical teen movie with a new spin on it that’s usually occupied by annoying white dudes.
THE HIGHENDS: I just found this Instagram, and I love it! Beautifully designed, it shows interesting women just hanging out and blowing down. Hopefully, I’ll get to go to one of their cyphers the next time I’m in NYC.
WHOOPI GOLDBERG: One day, I will smoke a Backwoods in her backyard. Manifesting that now! But seriously, my auntie Whoopi has her own brand of CBD products for women to help deal with menstrual pain. It’s fun stuff like chocolate, bubble baths, and lotions.
RIHANNA: Y’all thought I was going to forget about her? She literally rolled a joint on her body guard’s bald head in the middle of the desert and dressed up as marijuana for Halloween in the same year. A true icon.
By far the best tasting of any that I’ve tried because the CBD oil is paired with ashwagandha, black seed oil, and maple syrup. The added adaptogenic herbs help with the pain-relief factor, and even ashwagandha on its own is supposed to be great for anxiety.
While their oil is a good bare-bones oil that’s perfect to add into smoothies, foods, etc., the real star of their lineup for me was the Holy Cacao Hemp Butter. It is extremely tasty raw chocolate/coconut manna that happens to contain 100mg of CBD per jar. Win-win.
Rosebud makes three different potencies, which is super smart: 350mg, 700mg, and 1,000mg. The first two are great for during the day, and I keep the 1,000mg next to my bed for nighttime/insomnia.
Canna Calm LA has a pretty fine 30mg CBD bath bomb that helped soothe me mid-migraine, along with their CBD bath soak (also great). Their CBD oil contains peppermint oil, which I found extremely refreshing and a really nice addition that covers the somewhat bitter taste of hemp oil very effectively.
CBD as skincare? This is a new one. This serum is full of fatty oils and leaves the skin feeling super plump and hydrated, so I think there’s something to it.
A mother-daughter–owned/run edibles company that brings crystals, micro-dosing, and candy together! Their Luxury Gem Candy is so good, and with flavors like White Mint Illuminate and Citrine Quartz, the good vibes are always flowing.
These are for the femme who is all about aesthetics. Their tinctures are a great add to your morning tea before work, if you’re like me and the thought of going to your 9 to 5 makes your body instantly tense up. THIS IS FOR YOU! But if you want smoke, check out their pens. They have a variety of flavors that are super tasty (lemon-ginger, lavender, and my favorite, peppermint).
The business of Weed is a really exciting place to be right now, if you’re a white dude. So our friends at OnSheGoes.com have given us a list of dispensaries in the Portland area all owned by POC.
Since 2010, Brothers has served medicinal cannabis patients; now, they’ve added recreational users to their repertoire. Owned by Peou Sea and Nyno Thol, the Division Street dispensary is nearing eight years in business, which makes this dispensary the oldest in all of Portland. Amidst the bougie makeover along this Southeast Portland street, Brothers has thrived as they’re in close proximity to famed eateries like Pok Pok and Ava Gene’s. Photos of celebrity patrons decorate Brothers’ cozy, celery-colored walls, including visitors such
as Redman and Talib Kweli. Stock up on unique finds, like Star Wars–themed paraphernalia and
The sleek white interior of La Mota is contrasted by the seemingly endless jars of vibrant, potent flowers. Syrupy names like Sugar Alien and Cookies N Cream 2 identify each strain, and a menu further explains the THC and CBD attributes of each. With genuinely friendly staff and a loyal clientele, the Brentwood-Darlington location in Southeast Portland feels like a neighborhood joint through and through. But there are actually three La Mota locations in Portland, and over a dozen statewide.
One of Oregon’s largest chains, La Mota has a workforce that’s almost 80% women, with Rosa Cazares as the CEO. At each location, glass cases display a variety of accessories, including neon-hued pipes, an impressive selection of edibles, Claywolf brand cannabinoid extracts, and everything you need to procure the perfect dab. The dispensaries are also conveniently open at 8am every day to fulfill all last-minute needs for the
Panacea, owned by Melissa Egan, has a mission so perfect that it’s almost unbelievable: “[Our] objective is to generate profits from cannabis sales to support projects, organizations, or businesses that promote social justice and address problems that threaten people and society—not to maximize profits for a small group of individual investors.” Cofounder Jesce Horton is committed to propelling cannabis as a catalyst for social change and is the former board chairman of the Minority Cannabis Business Association, a nonprofit dedicated to leveling the playing field in the cannabis industry, decriminalizing marijuana, and educating folks on the plant’s medicinal properties.
The Northeast Portland dispensary feels ultra-Oregon, with warm, real-wood shelving, geometric furniture, and a waiting area with holographic art! Budtenders here are revered for their high spirits and extensive knowledge of each product’s varying medicinal properties. For those who want to learn more about the ways weed interacts with the body, a clinical herbalist holds free monthly informational sessions too. Among the in-house Panacea Valley Garden varieties, be sure to look out for the Black Cherry Cheesecake, OG Jones, and
Goji OG strains.
