We’re unraveling from the introspective, down-to-earth cocoon of Virgo, and preparing to take flight as social butterfly in the season of The Scales! Libra is an Air sign – along with humanitarian Aquarius and gossip queen Gemini – so she is intellectual, curious, and personable as hell. Airy Libra will force your head into the clouds so expand your mind and think BIG. Libra energy ushers in fall and is a time for change and transformation. The beauty of the forthcoming month being in the Cardinal quality – represented by the driven go-getters of the zodiac Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn – is that you’ll actually be inclined to initiate action on these badass ideas! Members of this sign are society’s people connectors, and can most often be found smack dab in the middle of a party doing The Absolute Most to charm. Queen of social media herself, Kim Kardashian West, is a quintessential Libra, and exemplifies the exact vibe we’ll be coasting on this month. We’re building valuable social connections, channeling the power of feminine energy and vanity, and finding balance in being flagrant. The social mask of Libra can seem extra, but the essence of this sign is represented by The Scales because truly thriving during this szn is all about creating harmony while enjoying all of the beauty and pleasure life has to offer.
This next month should be filled with new experiences, fun and lots of social affirmation; the key to unlocking the magic of Libra in any sign is not letting your FOMO get the best of you. You may think there are no downsides to being devastatingly charming, but Libra falls victim to quantity over quality of friendship very easily, particularly in the age of smartphones. Don’t play yourself, babe! Be mindful of being spread too thin by social commitments because we’re all gonna be itching to accept every invite and business collaboration presented, but girl……. Do less. The false sense of friendship created by likes and comments may feel particularly intoxicating to us right now, but superficial friendships and modern “networking” are most disingenuous to Libra. The balancing act presented to us with Libra’s energy is turning down the superficial for a true energetic union with someone whom you are genuinely compatible, whether it be platonic or a tad spicy. Meet a really nice drunk girl in the bathroom? Take her on a friend date! Find out all her quirks! Find out her exact birth time so you can google her natal chart because that’s not intrusive or creepy at all! You might surprise yourself with a new soulmate. The act of bringing two souls together in deep connection is what sets Libra’s soul on fire.
I’m truly in awe at the amount of social energy Libra can provide to the masses without going insane, and the drive to be hyper-social is probably going to be a lot for the less gregarious signs. To avoid getting lost in the sauce, we’ll be pushed to protect our personal power by simply slowing down – Libra is not an energy of efficiency, but of experience. Ruled by Venus – the goddess of love, beauty, and pleasure – this sign is obsessed with aesthetics and is typically a walking mood board, with a great eye for fashion. That’s right; she’s likable AND stunning! The rest of us will find harmony right now by taking time to bring beauty to the most basic daily habits. Wake up a few minutes early to make an Instagram-worthy avocado toast for breakfast (shouts out to the basics), put together a perfectly styled outfit, and do a full makeup routine inspired by YouTube to remind yourself what it feels like to be pampered like the goddess you are. Don’t do anything crazy like buy jewelry or enter a relationship on a whim with a Tinder date because Venus, which rules love and luxury, will be in retrograde after October 6, and your impulsive decisions will cost you. Honor what is beautiful and balanced for the next month, and the universe will reward you!

Talking about astrology with a stranger is a personal litmus test of mine. Sure, we can talk about the weather, but what if I told you that I identify more with my rising sign than my sun sign, or that since Mercury squared Pluto we’ve all collectively been feeling more sensitive than usual? Judging by someone’s reaction, I can usually tell whether or not a) they’re open minded and b) we will have anything to talk about on this damn business trip.
I think astrology gets a bad rap because people view it as whimsical and indulgent. They think it’s an easy escape, a way of writing off the randomness of the universe. People that aren’t into astrology, for example, are probably prone to eye-rolling when you attribute being late to Mercury going retrograde. But here’s the thing: we are literal specks of stardust floating in a vast universe. The moon controls the ocean. We are mostly water. So as far as this whole theory that planetary alignments can impact how our bodies and minds experience each day? Yeah, I’m sold.
I don’t know why we’re here or where we’re going, but I’m open to different beliefs and tools to help us make meaning. And for me, astrology is just an incredibly accessible tool. It’s free therapy. It’s a way of looking at yourself through an objective lens. It’s a way to make sense of patterns and promote inner awareness.
Sure, there are people who write horoscopes that promise you’ll win the lottery today or meet a new crush, but more and more there are people like Chani Nicholas or Jessica Lanyadoo, who fuse astrology with affirmation; psychology with spirituality. They’re not fortune tellers, they’re astro-therapists, addressing common themes and bringing in issues that our society needs to deal with on a bigger level. Reading their words helps me bring awareness to each day’s energy and think of productive ways to accept and work with it instead of fighting against it.
I don’t think everything happens for a reason, or that we are completely at the mercy of some external force. We obviously have ample free will. But I think real astrology proves this point so beautifully. The tides may turn, the energy may shift, but it’s what you do with it that matters. But of course I’d write a moody-ass sentence like that, because I’m an Aquarius with Cancer rising and a Scorpio moon.
